Twitter (TWTR.N) announced on Wednesday that it would begin to test some new features in early 2020 that allows users to control their reply limit. It will enable the users to control who can reply to their tweets to limit the rate of abuse and harassment on Twitter.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has promised to increase the health of public communication since 2018. Social media companies are under stress to discourse harassments on their platforms, and it mostly occurs in unbidden replies pointing women and minorities. TwitterComms tweeted,
“We want to help people feel safe participating in the conversation on Twitter by giving them more control over the conversations they start. We’ll be experimenting with different options for who can reply to Tweets in early 2020.”
Last year, the company launched a feature by allowing users to hide certain replies on their tweets as a step to clean up abusive contents and make a user-friendly social media.
On the report of some tech media like TechCrunch and The Verge, the company has opened the plans to control replies at the annual CES tech conference.
As stated by the company in a presentation at the conference, the users can choose between four different settings: Global, where everyone can reply, Group, where only the user mentioned people could respond, Panel, only the mentioned people in a tweet, and Statement, no one can reply to any tweets.
